At BuildView, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share your information when you use our construction management platform.

1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, password, property address, role (homeowner/contractor)
- Profile Information: Profile photo, company name (for contractors), project details
- Project Content: Photos, videos, documents, messages, comments, approval responses
- Payment Information: Billing details processed securely through our payment processor (we don't store full credit card numbers)
1.2 Information We Collect Automatically
- Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, time spent, clicks, interactions
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, browser type, IP address, mobile device identifiers
- Location Data: Approximate location based on IP address (we don't track precise GPS location unless you enable it for photo uploads)
- Cookies & Similar Technologies: We use cookies to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and analyze usage
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Contractor Tool Integrations: If your contractor connects their Procore, Buildertrend, or similar account, we receive project updates from those platforms
- Authentication Services: If you sign in with Google or other services, we receive basic profile information
- Payment Processors: Transaction confirmations and payment status
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
✔ Provide the Service: Enable you to track your construction project, communicate with contractors, manage documents, and approve decisions
✔ Improve the Product: Analyze usage patterns to make BuildView better
✔ AI Features: Power our AI Assistant to answer your questions and provide personalized suggestions
✔ Communication: Send you project updates, notifications, reminders, and important service announcements
✔ Security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security threats
✔ Legal Compliance: Comply with laws, regulations, and legal requests
✔ Marketing: Send promotional emails about new features (you can opt out anytime)
We will never:
✘ Sell your personal information to third parties
✘ Use your project photos for marketing without your explicit permission
✘ Share your data with competitors
3. How We Share Your Information
We only share your information in these limited situations:
3.1 With Your Project Team
- Other users you invite to your project (contractors, family members, etc.) can see project content you share
3.2 With Service Providers
- Cloud hosting providers (AWS, Google Cloud)
- Payment processors (Stripe)
- Email services (SendGrid)
- Analytics tools (Google Analytics, Mixpanel)
- AI services (OpenAI for the AI Assistant)
- Customer support tools (Intercom, Zendesk)
These providers are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for providing services to BuildView.
3.3 With Integrated Contractor Tools
- If your contractor uses Procore, Buildertrend, or similar tools, we sync data bidirectionally to keep everyone updated
3.4 For Legal Reasons
- To comply with laws, regulations, subpoenas, or court orders
- To protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (users will be notified)
3.5 With Your Consent
- We'll ask your permission before sharing your information for any other purpose
4. Data Security
We take security seriously and implement industry-standard measures:
Encryption: Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
Access Controls: Role-based permissions ensure users only see what they should
Secure Authentication: Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
Regular Backups: Automatic daily backups to prevent data loss
Monitoring: 24/7 security monitoring to detect and respond to threats
Third-Party Audits: Regular security assessments by independent experts
However, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication (when available).
5. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have these rights:

Note: Deleting your account will remove your access to project data. Contractors and other project members may retain copies of shared content.
6. Data Retention
- Active Projects: We keep your data as long as your project is active and for 2 years after completion (for reference and warranty purposes)
- Closed Accounts: We delete or anonymize your data within 90 days of account closure, except where required by law
- Backups: Data in backups is retained for up to 30 days
7. Children's Privacy
BuildView is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If we learn we've collected data from a child under 18, we'll delete it immediately. Contact us at team@buildview.ai if you believe a child has provided us information.
8. International Data Transfers
BuildView is based in the United States. If you're located elsewhere, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses for EU users).
9. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep you logged in
- Remember your preferences
- Analyze usage and improve the service
- Deliver targeted advertising (you can opt out)
